Women play a special role in the overall development of the country. ââ¬Å"There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing. â⬠ââ¬Å"woman is the builder and moulder of a nationââ¬â¢s destiny, though delicate and soft as lily, she has a heart, stronger and bolder than that of man, she is the supreme inspiration for manââ¬â¢s onward march. Today the educated women have come out of their inferiority complex and are shouldering all kinds of responsibilities, as Managers, officers, TV and radio news reader, pilots, Ministers, Anchors, Musicians, Clerks, Stenographers, and what not? state is a ââ¬Å"union of families and villagesâ⬠. Family is the basic unit of society, which is the foundation o f state itself. Happy families create a healthy society and healthy society is a pre-requisite of strong political order in democratic societies. A woman is an architect of society. She establishes the institution of family life, builds the home, brings up the children and makes them good citizens. Her strength in totality contributes in the making of an ideal family, ideal society and an ideal state. It has become essential for women to be politically empowered to achieve socio-economic justice. It has rightly been said who holds the purse holds the nation. As the women are better half of the nation, they deserve better share in political power. The male-dominated political parties and legislatures in the country do not bear with their equal number in epresentative institutions. What we lack is ââ¬Å"political willâ⬠to understand the importance of womenââ¬â¢s role in nation building and all avenues open to them to get political power. MEN Should realize the power of women,And women should also realize their power too, what they can do for them, for their family, for their nation. They are the building blocks of nation building,In the words of Martin Luth ar KIng,â⬠A motherââ¬â¢s place is inside her home,But she should also make certain, she gets outside that home enough to help worth while crusades and actively mould the country her children will live in. She therefore holds a key position and her role in shaping the fate of the nation must be recognized and respected. This we see that a woman occupies a vital position in family, society and it is time we recognised and respected her ability. They should not search for the role models but try themselves to be role models in politics. It would be of no use giving equal share in parental property unless the social set-up is changed. That can be changed only by sincere implementation of laws made for women. A woman is shakti, the natural energy. The most ancient scriptures say that without the female power, it is not possible for humankind to survive. The female power has been the force behind all the great leaders of the world. Therefore, they must be politically empowered. The writing is on the wall ââ¬â the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world. OUR WOMEN have a great part to play in the progress of our country, as the mental and physical contact of women with life is much more lasting and comprehensive than that of men. For nothing was it said, ââ¬Å"The hand that rocks the cradle rules the worldâ⬠. In the apron string of women is hidden the revolutionary energy, which can establish paradise on this earth. Woman is the magnificent creation of god, a multi faceted personality with the power of benevolence, adjustability, integrity and tolerance. She is companion of man, gifted with equal mental faculty, a protector and provider, the embodiment of love and affection. The role given to women in a society is a measuring rod and true index of its civilisation and cultural attainment. How to cite Women in Nation Building, Papers

La Belle Dame Sans Merci Annotations Essay Example
La Belle Dame Sans Merci Annotations Paper Title is French The Language of Love Title translates to: ââ¬ËThe Beautiful Woman Without Mercy/Pity. ââ¬â¢ The woman in the poem speaks French and thatââ¬â¢s why the knight misunderstands her. The poem has a circular structure, repetition of the first knightsââ¬â¢ words at the beginning and end of the poem. The first and last stanzas are almost identical. Lots of lines are repeated throughout. Title taken from a medieval poem, romanticism celebrated medievalism and its traditions. Written in the form of a Literary Ballad: Tells the story in a simple way, similar to a song or folk ballad, (embracing traditions). La Belle Dame Sans Merci This is the first speaker as he is talking about another knight, asking rhetorical questions. I The first and second stanzas contain anxiety and uncertainty of the first speaker and foreshadow the pain and trouble that will come to the second speaker No birds singing is a metaphor for there being no life around or no life for the knight ââ¬ËAilââ¬â¢ means bringing someone down through pain or trouble. This foreshadows the discomfort the second knight will experience later in the poem. Oh what can ail thee, knight-at-arms, Alone and palely loitering? II We would think a ââ¬Ëknight-at-armsââ¬â¢ as a muscular and strong hero. However the hero is portrayed to be ââ¬Ëhaggardââ¬â¢. This is a derogatory term for a woman being used for a man, ââ¬ËHaggard old womanââ¬â¢. Pathetic Fallacy is used to set a dull mood. Binary Opposite: Winter, (when the harvestââ¬â¢s done), is cold in comparison to the sunshine that a knight would bring. This could also be a metaphor for the fact that the knight is food for the woman, so he gives her power. Oh what can ail thee, knight-at-arms, So haggard and so woe-begone? The squirrels granary is full, And the harvests done. Imagery of Nature is used to create a somber mood and tension in the atmosphere: Lilies are associated with funerals and death and fading roses with illness and death but nature usually has positive connotations. III Negative connotations of nature: ââ¬Ëanguish moistââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëfast withereth tooââ¬â¢ suggests a change in the woman or change in the power of nature. Quatrains: Regular four line stanzas for clarity could be seen as a representation of the womanââ¬â¢s power and stability. I see a lily on thy brow, With anguish moist and fever-dew, And on thy cheeks a fading rose Fast withereth too. The Imaginative description and comparison of mythical characters suggests that this woman is not genuine, she may not be real as ââ¬Ëa faeryââ¬â¢s childââ¬â¢ would be a figment of the imagination and ââ¬Ëher foot was lightââ¬â¢ so sheââ¬â¢s not down to earth. IV Meads are meadows or forests. Highlights dream elements of beauty and nature. ââ¬ËWildââ¬â¢ eyes suggest the power of forces of nature and so suggest the beautiful woman is not trustworthy. I met a lady in the meads, Full beautiful a faerys child, Her hair was long, her foot was light, And her eyes were wild. The idea of the knight making the woman a garland a bracelets suggests that he is adding to the power of nature and is causing his own failure while trying to bring himself happiness. Assonance: The repetition of vowels could represent a spell being cast on the knight by the woman. V Sexual Imagery: Used to show the intentions of the knight and the extent of his foolishness after several warnings of danger. Rhyming: The second and last line of every stanza rhyme, (ABCB), adds an element of repetition and reinforcement of Keatsââ¬â¢ message to both the speakers and the reader. I made a garland for her head, And bracelets too, and fragrant zone; She looked at me as she did love, And made sweet moan. VI A ââ¬Ëpacing steedââ¬â¢ is a horse. This shows how he is trying to impress her and please her with power that he doesnââ¬â¢t hold. Dreamy Imagery of mythical characters: ââ¬ËA faeryââ¬â¢s songââ¬â¢, portrays the ideas of idealism and individuality in the Romantic Movement and shows how persuasive this woman is. This also introduces the reader to the idea of a language barrier between the knight and the woman. The woman has blinded the knight with her beauty and her use of power, to him she is supernatural. I set her on my pacing steed, And nothing else saw all day long, For sidelong would she bend, and sing A faerys song. Each stanza is labelled with roman numerals which the helps the story of the poem to be understood easily and adds the element of structure that goes with the womanââ¬â¢s taming and deception, like she has it all planned out. The third to the eighth stanza of the poem are emotional and intense. They describe the knight and womenââ¬â¢s meeting and mystify the attraction that appears to develop between them. There are also semantic fields of nature and imagination in these stanzas. Alliteration is used to emphasise the meaning the relish, it could be poison for the knight. The fact that she gives him ââ¬Ërelish sweetââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëhoney wildââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëmanna-dewââ¬â¢ suggests that maybe she is overdosing the knight with her power and her supernatural forces. VII An ââ¬Ëelfin grotââ¬â¢ would be a small hidden secretive place, maybe a cave for the woman. Whereas, normally, a fairy would have a grotto as her home place. This means the knight is being deceived; the woman could be a monster or witch if she lives in a cave. The woman obviously speaks French, the language of love which is the ââ¬Ëlanguage strangeââ¬â¢. The knight misreads the signals and misunderstands the language but he doesnââ¬â¢t think heââ¬â¢s wrong. She found me roots of relish sweet, And honey wild, and manna-dew, And sure in language strange she said I love thee true. VIII Metaphor: ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦she lulled me asleep. ââ¬â¢ This is metaphorical as it suggests that the knight has been lulled into a false sense of security which allows Keats to express his feelings on values and beliefs in society. Semantic Fields of love and nature and the repetition of ââ¬Ëwildââ¬â¢: They help to portray the slight concern of the knight. Dreamy imagery comes to life for the knight when he realises that this is all fake and the woman is a myth. He has been tamed through deception. The woman is still deceiving the knight and she looks innocent through crying, the knight still thinks that he has power over her and continues to love her all the same. She took me to her elfin grot, And there she wept and sighed full sore, And there I shut her wild wild eyes With kisses four. IX In his dream, the knight dreams about his fellow aristocrats being deceived by the same woman. This allows Keats to express his rejection of aristocratic patronage. ââ¬ËOn the Cold Hill Sideââ¬â¢ suggests the loneliness and isolation of the knight as he has been deceived. Negative connotations of love are used. And there she lulled me asleep And there I dreamed Ah! woe betide! The latest dream I ever dreamt On the cold hill side. Again towards the end of the poem, heroes are portrayed to be weak, ââ¬Ëpale kings and princesââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëpale warriorsââ¬â¢ which would not normally be associated with the concepts of illness, death and the draining of power. X From the ninth to the eleventh stanza there is a significant change in power from men to women and a change to a haunting tone. The negative terminology emphasises the storyââ¬â¢s events and the extent to which the knight has been tricked. I saw pale kings and princes too, Pale warriors, death-pale were they all; They cried La Belle Dame sans Merci -Hath thee in thrall! Hyperbole: Descriptive adjectives and use of setting are used to create tension and a moody atmosphere and shows that the knight has been emasculated by the woman for her own power. XI Patriarchal Society/Equality between genders: The knight knows this is all fake but he has not come to this conclusion through the woman, he has seen it through the other ââ¬Ëwarriorsââ¬â¢ shows the element of male dominance and power. Repetition: ââ¬ËOn the cold hill sideââ¬â¢ is used for reinforcement of the knightââ¬â¢s loneliness and brings closure to the story told in the poem. Repetition: ââ¬ËOn the cold hill sideââ¬â¢ is used for reinforcement of the knightââ¬â¢s loneliness and brings closure to the story told in the poem. I saw their starved lips in the gloam, With horrid warning gaped wide, And I awoke and found me here, On the cold hills side. XII The final stanza of the poem completes the circle of the story and acts as a conclusion to the end of the story containing mystery and ambiguity as the first and last stanzas of the poem are almost identical. Circular Structure/Repetition: The last line of the poem ââ¬ËAnd no birds sing tells the reader that the knight has returned back to the original state that he was at the start of the poem where there is no life around. Old Language: ââ¬Ësojournââ¬â¢ Keats use of old language adds an element of mystery and supports the mythical themes in the poem. Mythology is a common theme in poems from the era of romanticism. In the final stanza the second knight answers the first knightââ¬â¢s questions with a matter of fact. ââ¬ËAnd this is why I sojourn hereââ¬â¢. With this Keats shows his reader that the knight has not changed, he is staying as he is: he was powerless at the beginning and is at the end. It was the woman who gave him what he thought was his power. And this is why I sojourn here Alone and palely loitering, Though the sedge is withered from the lake, And no birds sing.

bob the fish
bob the fish 12 May 2014Dear Mr. Harris,I am writing to you to argue against your article headed "Save our Children from the Horrors of School Sport". This article appeared in The Independent on Wednesday. My first point is that your use of words for the title is completely inappropriate as when you say "save" and "horrors" which is saying that the children are is some kind of danger and are in need of saving and that they are horrified by the thoughts of sport. Which I find completely wrong I can say that it is not horrifying. As I am a student at a sport ordinated school. My second point is that how good it is to do sport. Sure there might be some "humiliating" times and "misery" involved but that is all part of life. Sport keeps you fit and healthy, while a 'thrice daily smoke behind the biology block' does not which is probably the cause of your misery in sport.Front of Wingate Physical Education Institute, 195...As well as this Sport is an endorphin-reliving subject, which makes you happy and is also a proven way of fighting pain and stress. Sport also teaches children Social Skills and can teach important life lessons E.g. you need to carry on when it gets tough to make it better at the end. This leads me onto that you can take part of competitions ranging from school sports days to the Olympics, this already making you happy because you have been chosen. But my point is that you can win things which makes you even happier because it proves that you are good at this, but even if you don't win you will be happy because you took part and tried you're hardest. But you say it is a "public embarrassment" and a "humiliating" SubjectMy third...

Word Choice Viscous vs. Vicious
Word Choice Viscous vs. Vicious Word Choice: Viscous vs. Vicious ââ¬Å"Viscousâ⬠and ââ¬Å"viciousâ⬠are both adjectives. Theyââ¬â¢re also close enough in spelling that itââ¬â¢s easy to get them mixed up when you see them written down. However, these terms have very different meanings, so check out our guide below to find out how they should be used. Viscous (Thick and Sticky) We use ââ¬Å"viscousâ⬠to describe something that is thick and sticky. For instance: The mixture was too viscous to stir. Honey is a viscous foodstuff produced by bees. A ââ¬Å"viscousâ⬠liquid is typically something that doesnââ¬â¢t flow smoothly. You can see this for yourself if you look at how quickly honey or molasses flow down an incline compared to water. The thickness of a liquid is known as its ââ¬Å"viscosityâ⬠(e.g., water has low viscosity compared to honey). Vicious (Violent or Cruel) Most of the time, ââ¬Å"viciousâ⬠means ââ¬Å"violent,â⬠ââ¬Å"fierce,â⬠or ââ¬Å"cruel.â⬠For example: The vicious dog snarled when it saw the cat. They began a vicious assault on the enemy fort at dawn. Sometimes, however, we can also use ââ¬Å"viciousâ⬠to mean ââ¬Å"painfulâ⬠or ââ¬Å"intenseâ⬠: Iââ¬â¢ve had a vicious headache all day. Even here, though, ââ¬Å"viciousâ⬠implies that something is harmful or negative. We see this negativity again in the phrase ââ¬Å"vicious circle.â⬠This describes a process where two problems cause or reinforce one another, making it difficult to escape or solve either one. For example, imagine you have a toothache but you are scared to go to the dentist. Putting off going may make the condition worse, requiring a more painful treatment, which could make going to the dentist even more scary, etc. This cycle makes each problem worse, so it is a ââ¬Å"viciousâ⬠circle. The Vicious Cycle of Dental Fear would also make a great name for a black metal band.(Image: 18961065RP/wikimedia) Summary: Viscous or Vicious? Although these terms look similar, they have very different meanings: Something is viscous if it is thick and sticky, like honey or molasses. To be vicious is usually to be cruel, violent, or dangerously aggressive. You may also need to be wary of spellcheckers with these terms. If you type ââ¬Å"vicousâ⬠by accident, for example, Microsoft Word will suggest both ââ¬Å"viscousâ⬠and ââ¬Å"viciousâ⬠as corrections. You therefore need to be careful about which term you pick from the list when correcting typos! To make doubly sure your writing is error free, though, you can always ask a proofreader.

Research Design and Methods - Coursework Example Research according to Jupp (2006) entails exploration, analysis, interpretation and the creation of understanding of varied phenomena which are educational in nature, and pertains a formalized and gradual occurrence of social, cultural and psychological processes. This implies that it deals with educational concerns in which there are possibilities of carrying out satisfactory investigation. Similarly, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the methods which enable such satisfactory investigations and the utility of the results emanating from the investigation are important.â⬠(Dash 1993). The theoretical questions in education result from varied concepts and social understandings of the same. For this reasons, a number of varied paradigms have been brought forward to explain the criteria depending on the methodology selected and the definitions of the concerns for the inquiry. A paradigm, according to Kuhn (1962) ââ¬Å"â⬠¦an integrated cluster of substantive, concepts, variables and problems attached with corresponding methodological approach and toolsâ⬠(p.52). Positivism paradigm- The paradigm explores social reality and is anchored on ideas of August Conte, a French philosopher. Conte postulates that the two key aspects of observation and reason inform the understanding of human behavior. He underscores the knowledge is based on sensual experience which is obtained through experimentation and observation. His scientific method is, therefore, used by positivistic thinkers to generate knowledge. There are a number of assumptions under the positivism, which are vital in helping to understand the paradigm. However, these assumptions at some point have been considered as separate paradigms of their own. They include; the assumption of ââ¬ËParsimonyââ¬â¢, the assumption of ââ¬ËEmpiricismââ¬â¢ the assumption of ââ¬ËGeneralityââ¬â¢ and the assumption of ââ¬ËDeterminismââ¬â¢ which form the framework within which the paradigm is
